With some improvements to the writing, visuals, and production values, this film had the potential to be considered one of the better queer movies ever made. However, those elements are lacking. The storyline explores common dating experiences for people who are both gay and straight, presenting a variety of situations that can go wrong on a date. The dialogue feels forced, likely due to the use of improvisation. The conclusion also diminished my enjoyment; the predictable trope of a high school bully finding redemption—something that might have been acceptable in 2001—doesn't really work two decades later.
