Maureen O'Hara and Jeff Chandler become figures from Arabian stories while remaining in California, but their portrayal lacks genuineness, much like the setting itself. She plays "Tanya," a spirited Tunisian princess facing an arranged marriage to a pirate. Luckily, “Tamerlane,” portrayed by the stiff Chandler, appears. He’s searching for "Shazada," a legendary stallion, and this horse—along with him—might be the key to preventing the princess's unfortunate destiny. The story itself has some entertainment value, but it’s poorly handled. There’s no spark between the leads; the sets appear cheap, constructed from something like Styrofoam, and the conversations are incredibly dull. This genre of fantasy and mythology should have lent itself to a more elaborate narrative, yet everyone seems disengaged, and even the action feels overly artificial. Perhaps the discomfort of filming in the desert heat affected the production? The film was advertised in color but presented in black and white—a fitting representation of the overall experience.
