Thinking of a privileged take on the “Jets” or the “Sharks,” but with skateboards instead of switchblades, gives you a decent idea of this rather forgettable short film. A collection of young boys display their skateboarding abilities around town until one of them notices a girl – in a fairly awkward fashion – and then he becomes quite flustered. He glances at her, she looks back, and the audience feels uncomfortable watching these initial, hesitant steps in their coming-of-age experience. While some of the camera work captures the boys’ physical abilities and there's an adequate musical backdrop for their tricks, otherwise it runs a bit too long at seventeen minutes, and perhaps it's just my age, but I thought both characters – particularly the boy – seemed unrealistically young and inexperienced to warrant watching them begin their hormonal journey. It isn't so much that it’s cheesy as it is awkward to witness.
