GenerationofSwine on Alien Abduction

It’s strange; it seems like the armed forces are now providing .38 Specials. They also appear to be producing official documents on standard paper and affixing them to walls. Occasionally, you feel almost special when one of those notices is protected with plastic laminate. The movie suffers because it attempts to depict an excessive amount, much like *Alien Autopsy* did. Unfortunately, the financial resources weren't sufficient for what they were trying to accomplish. A basic light from above would have been more effective during the abduction sequence; perhaps it was best not to display anything at all. This flaw extends beyond that single scene and permeates the entire film. The movie would’ve benefited greatly—particularly considering the generally competent performances—if the aliens had remained unseen, if the story suggested it might all be a dream, and if the money allocated for special effects had been used to create convincing sets instead. They insisted on showing the aliens and the unsettling spaceship backdrop, and that ultimately ruined the film. It’s best not to reveal your hand when you don't have a strong one; pretending would have made it better.
