I love noir films, but Westerns are what I turn to for relaxation. Shotgun felt like a quick bite to eat – not particularly thrilling. Hadyen embodies the cowboy persona effortlessly, as he consistently does. DeCarlo’s appearance wasn’t handled well; she's dressed in an odd combination of a billowy pirate-style shirt and mom jeans throughout the movie. Her hairstyle is reminiscent of 1950s television homemakers. I wish I hadn’t read a comment on Amazon mentioning her rear looked large in those jeans, because I found myself noticing her every time she was on horseback with Sterling (she's got curves; it wasn't the jeans). Scott played his part convincingly, as he typically does. The film looked really good in widescreen format. There were a couple of standout moments – the snake bite at the start and the horseback shooting match at the end (sorry, snake!). It brought back a memory of Hayden throwing a harpoon in another Western he was in. Ultimately, Hayden delivers a strong performance, DeCarlo is oddly unlikeable, and Scott meets an unpleasant demise but doesn’t seem to react to it at all.
