The film manages to be worthwhile primarily during its final quarter hour; for everything else, it feels like a regrettable expenditure of time and energy. James MacArthur and Patricia Oliver are facing repercussions from their university due to an article in the school newspaper that pushed boundaries considered inappropriate by the administration. Richard Todd, portraying Dr. Barnett, resigns his position and subsequently becomes an advocate for their unconventional lifestyle. He initially maintains his commitment to principles of freedom and equality but gradually experiences a decline as he enjoys popularity, success, and some romantic interest from a former student. Ultimately, someone is destined to suffer consequences. The film's purpose isn’t truly realized until the very end, illustrating how unchecked authority—even when originating with good intentions—can lead to corruption. Todd seems unsuited for his role; MacArthur and Oliver are simply too polished and charming to inspire genuine concern for their cause. Frankly, enduring the initial 75 minutes of this pleasant, anti-establishment narrative can be challenging. It’s difficult to understand why it was rejected by censors.
