The film begins with "Lt. Davenport" (George Neise) leading his men into a pointless ambush by Mescalero Apache warriors, which results in him being wounded. Consequently, “McCoy” (Chuck Connors), the sergeant, must assume leadership and attempt to guide them to safety, often using force. Their situation worsens upon returning to their fort, only to discover it has already been raided and they are isolated. Now, they have to brace themselves for a full-scale attack against their defenses while “McCoy” risks facing a court-martial if they manage to live through it all! The movie moves at a brisk pace, featuring considerable action sequences, a siege scenario, and very little romantic subplot as the tension escalates. Connors delivers his typical stiff performance, but Robert Knapp ("Barrow") provides a slightly more engaging portrayal, and Harry Dean Stanton ("Miller") appears in an early role for those who look closely. It turned out to be better than I initially thought; it’s not something you'll recall later on, but it makes for enjoyable viewing.
