It’s surprising to learn things like how much we sweat daily or that the value of our body’s components is so low – aside from any gold fillings. This documentary shares facts such as these, employing innovative techniques in photography and visuals to reveal the intricacy of human biology. We are shown details ranging from the numerous microscopic sensors on our tongues that register taste and temperature, to the pores in our skin, how we blink, and even the fact that what we initially see is actually upside down. Even tears serve a purpose beyond emotional release. Our ears can perceive a wide range of frequencies, and some internal structures resemble designs you might find in science fiction. This feeling extends to the detailed imagery showcasing processes like breathing, walking, maintaining balance, chewing, sleeping, and simply existing. The documentary also explores how science attempts to correct bodily imperfections, offering an intimate look at what allows us to function, endure, and prosper. While E.G. Marshall’s narration is somewhat detached and perhaps relies a bit too heavily on statistics instead of inspiring wonder, it does serve as a helpful introduction to this engaging film that's ultimately worth seeing.
