The film’s length is excessive, yet it remains an engaging depiction of cultural conflicts as a young Navajo hunter resists assimilation into white settler society. He reaches an age where formal education is expected, but he'd rather skip it, much like many people his age. However, unlike most, this boy possesses considerable survival skills and decides to wander off without considering the potential repercussions. Soon after, two men are dispatched to find him and ensure his safety, so we observe his adventures as they pursue him across a harsh Arizona landscape that has been their ancestral home for countless years. This heritage is highlighted by the ancient artwork found on weathered rocks and the burial sites situated high in the rock formations and caves. Ultimately, will he manage to evade those chasing him, or conversely, can they keep up with this quick and resourceful young man? The narrative is straightforward, establishing its purpose early on, and mostly provides a visual journey through some rather desolate scenery. Nevertheless, it explores the merging of contemporary perspectives and age-old customs, suggesting the decline of traditional practices within today's "reservation" system.
