The narration initially explains what the "midnight symphony" is, but then thankfully steps aside so we can experience ten minutes of atmospheric jazz featuring saxophone (Lester Young), trumpet, double bass, and piano—all wonderfully blended together with understated drums providing a steady rhythm, allowing each musician to have their moment. This flows seamlessly into an appealing version of "The Sunny Side of the Street" performed by Marie Bryant, which adds some substance to the experience. To finish things off, there's a more polished presentation of an improvised piece incorporating jitterbug elements alongside excellent guitar and saxophone playing. It’s hard not to tap your feet along—it's a really enjoyable and diverse musical showcase. The lighting is kept very low-key, and the pervasive cigarette smoke contributes significantly to the overall mood. The photography is straightforward, letting the performers take center stage.
