Ryan Reynolds used to feel like a breath of fresh air when he appeared in films, but now his style feels stale and unoriginal, borrowing heavily from his previous roles. The more times you see him act, the less amusing he becomes, and this film offers absolutely nothing new to the table. I want to be clear: it really doesn't bring anything different. It’s essentially observing the same persona in a slightly altered costume performing familiar actions repeatedly. He is well-suited for the role because he’s portraying a character very similar to those he has played before. Kenneth Branagh’s presence is certainly appreciated, and he tries his best given what he's been handed, but his character doesn't quite capture your interest, and the movie itself isn’t particularly strong. I expect it will do well based on the actors involved, and others may feel differently than I do, however, if you are weary of seeing Ryan Reynolds consistently play a similar type of role, this film might shock you with how underwhelming it is. Despite its technical competence, I cannot endorse it.
