The story centers on George Zucco portraying "Count Armalia," a man with considerable means who becomes captivated by cabaret singer “Anni” (Joan Crawford). He then undertakes to transform her, much like in the classic tale *Pygmalion*, providing her with luxurious clothing and intending to see if she can convincingly pass as a socialite for two weeks at an upscale hotel. Fortunately for her, she learns that "Marta" (Mary Philips), a friend from the past, will be working as her personal maid, but succeeding in this endeavor promises to be difficult. Knowing that her previous life will soon resume, securing a marriage becomes essential. Her options are limited to either the affluent "Rudi" (Robert Young) or the unassuming postman "Giulio" (Franchot Tone). As the deadline approaches, she grapples with whether her choice will be driven by affection or financial security. Or is it affection or money? The film leans somewhat toward melodrama, though Crawford delivers a strong performance, as does Young, and even Billie Burke, in a smaller role as the intrusive "Contessa." Even Franchot Tone, typically known for his cheerful but stiff demeanor, manages to be quite captivating. There's also an amusing critique of the frivolous lifestyles of these privileged individuals who occupy themselves with trivial matters while eagerly anticipating chances to betray one another! It’s not a film that will likely stay with you long after viewing, though it does feature some musical numbers from Crawford, demonstrating her vocal ability, and possesses a considerable amount of glamour.
