It brought “Merlin,” the BBC series starring Colin Morgan, to mind—this feels like a modern take on one of his escapades, though lacking the costumes, appeal, or dragons. The film opens with appealing aerial shots of treetops before we meet "Rhona" (Lauren Lyle), who’s gathered four companions for a lengthy trek into the wild in search of a secluded cabin she received from her father, whom she hadn't been close to for years. They are unaware of what awaits them, but “Carla” (Nicolette McKeown—who bore a strong resemblance to Rebecca Ferguson) volunteers to lead their expedition. However, "Carla" possesses a disturbing psychological side and the group led by "Rhona" appear to be flighty and superficial—with the possible exception of “Scott” (James Watterson). The events that unfold become increasingly absurd as it becomes clear there's little to like about any of them, culminating in an ending that casts doubt on the quality of elite British military instruction. While the sound design is well-done, everything else feels ordinary and will likely be a suitable viewing choice when it airs around Halloween.
