I’ll readily confess that I'm a fan of Guy Ritchie, and I don't regret saying so. *In The Grey* sees him using his established methods with precision. The initial portion—roughly the first sixty minutes—is akin to a tense, dangerous *Home Alone* sequence set on an island; it’s careful planning and strategic setup that leads to a chain reaction in the latter part of the film. The cast is excellent, but the captivating dynamic between Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill truly stands out, hinting at their shared past through their interactions. The emotional impact doesn't quite resonate once the action begins, and Gyllenhaal delivers a single speech that feels overly drawn-out and disrupts the flow, but when the fighting starts, it’s an impressive, well-organized display of entertainment. (The scene involving refreshments is reason enough to buy a ticket). If Ritchie’s style isn't for you, I suggest waiting until it’s available online. But if you appreciate energetic action, see this one in theaters. Rating: A solid Middle Aisle selection.
