It’s unusual to see a film credit for "vocal interpolations," yet this early western includes just such a notation! It suggests there might be some singing involved as Randolph Scott guides Gail Patrick and her wagon train through difficult landscapes, including harsh weather and encounters with Apache warriors. The lead actor possesses an endearing awkwardness; he seems like a smitten young animal as he gradually develops feelings for the spirited woman. Despite its short running time, the film fits in a surprising amount of story and builds effectively to a well-designed and energetic finale. While the filmmaking is fairly simple, it's a fun, action-filled adventure that I found quite pleasing.
