Zarkorr! the Invader, released in 1996, mixes science fiction with monster elements. The lead character has an energy reminiscent of someone from Clerks; I kept expecting him to quip something like "I wasn't even supposed to be here today." A standout is the police officer who’s pumped up and constantly yelling—he’s wonderfully intense. There's also a peculiar hacker character, attempting a Dr. Strangelove persona but with the Joker’s unsettling laughter. What struck me was how believable the movie is in portraying people's responses when faced with impending disaster and a potential solution; it feels like a version of Don't Look Up geared toward a more discerning audience. It's remarkable that this film manages to capture the essence of an American Godzilla movie better than the 1998 one—though, truthfully, that’s not entirely unexpected. Overall, Zarkorr! the Invader is quite good and entertaining, making it something I would gladly watch again sometime.
