The story feels lifted directly from a collection like "Arabian Nights." “Harum” (Rock Hudson) sets out to get revenge for his father’s death, which was caused by the villainous "Jafar" (George Macready). His journey takes him to Baghdad, where he meets "Khairuzan" (Piper Laurie), a spirited young woman who is secretly the daughter of the city's caliph—a man also threatened by Jafar’s power-hungry plans. She provides him with a magical golden sword, making him seemingly unstoppable. That changes when someone replaces his sword with a weaker imitation, and suddenly “Harum” finds himself imprisoned! Will he manage to break free, rescue the Caliph, and win over the girl? I've never been entirely convinced by Rock Hudson’s performances; he often seems to play variations of the same character, and here that lack of distinction doesn’t quite mesh with Laurie’s more vibrant presence. George Macready deserves recognition for his portrayal – he fully embraces the role as a smooth-talking, power-mad tyrant. The film is filled with opulent costumes, vivid colors, swordplay, and at times it proves to be an enjoyable adventure.
