John Turner portrays Sir Richard, who goes back to his family’s property with his new wife, Heather Sears, only to discover that stories are circulating about his prior return and possible involvement in local killings—including an order for a saddle bearing the name of his deceased spouse. The central question becomes how he could possibly be in multiple locations simultaneously. Reputable individuals insist they've spotted him where both he and his wife know he wasn’t present, raising questions about what is really happening. Peter Arne as his assistant, Seymour, and Ann Lynn as his sister-in-law, Diane, offer little explanation—is he losing his mind? Robert Hartford Davis does manage to improve things somewhat in the final portion of the film, but generally it fails to generate much suspense. It’s similar to a "Scooby-Do" episode; you anticipate a logical explanation for what seems impossible, and with such a small cast, figuring out the answer is rather simple. The music attempts to make up for the lack of tension stemming from the unremarkable performances, and while the production values are acceptable—the costumes and sets are quite good—the overall effect is somewhat underwhelming. Consider it a watered-down Hammer film experience.
