The film makes good use of historical footage to raise public attention about the dangers of spreading rumors. It presents different social settings where people are repeating things they've heard or read, and then tries to respond to these speculations with information and straightforward promotion of American soldiers, their equipment, and technology—not only against Japan but also against Germany. While it acknowledges that the United States isn’t alone in this fight, its main goal seems to be strengthening spirits at home and getting people to avoid spreading gossip; ultimately, it's a tribute to the power of the military and the resilience of democracy, regardless of the challenges faced. There is some new footage included, but anyone familiar with how newsreels covered World War II will likely have seen similar material. The narration feels overly serious, and as I watched, I wished someone with a sharper wit—like Pete Smith—could have delivered it in a more interesting way, rather than like a classroom lesson. Still, it probably fulfilled its intended function back in 1942.
