The story centers on "Celine" (Anne Hathaway) and "Alice" (Jessica Chastain), who live next door to each other, as their sons, "Max" and "Theo," are close friends. A devastating event changes everything for these families, leading to a rapid shift in the women's relationship, now marked by bitterness and suspicion. Ultimately, "Celine" seems willing to extend an offer of reconciliation, but "Alice" soon wonders if there’s something more behind her actions. Director Benoît Delhomme does a commendable job maintaining a feeling of unease and suspense for a good portion of the film, skillfully prompting viewers to question each woman's perspective. However, the resolution feels rushed and leaves several unanswered questions. Despite this, the actors have a strong connection and convincingly portray their characters’ resolve and, as the title implies, a deep desire to safeguard those they care about. The movie moves along at a good speed and is generally enjoyable—though watching it on television would be perfectly acceptable, as the cinema experience doesn't significantly enhance the visuals or cinematography of this occasionally unusual thriller.
