This film attempts to masquerade as something more sophisticated than what it is—a home invasion movie—and I'm not thrilled when movies try to deceive their audience in that way. It feels like a deception, and I really dislike films that present themselves as being better than they truly are. The performers aren’t at fault here; the blame rests with the director and the studio. They were after attention, conflict, positive reviews, and discussion... ...but ultimately, it's still just a home invasion movie, and it wouldn’t have achieved any of those desired outcomes if they had simply created an upfront film. However, if they had been straightforward about its nature, the movie likely would have fared better financially. Audiences might not have felt so misled, critics would have given it harsh reviews, and perhaps in a decade, it could have gained a devoted following. Instead, we're left with an inferior film trying to be seen as high art—complete with all the associated affectation.
