Bong Joon Ho’s film is remarkable, and Hye-ja Kim delivers a truly outstanding portrayal of the "Mother." Her son, "Soon Do-joon" (played by Won Bin), finds himself accused of killing a young woman. The authorities appear certain of his culpability, and his legal counsel proposes confinement in a hospital instead of jail, prompting her to begin a relentless quest to prove he is not guilty. As she pursues this goal, she increasingly becomes fixated, experiencing a decline in her own mental well-being, which pulls the viewer into a dark and somewhat gloomy crime story. The narrative contains numerous unexpected developments, and by the time the credits roll (with an ending that feels completely surprising), I felt quite drained. It's one of the most captivating movies I’ve encountered in years, featuring a superb score—it’s definitely worth seeing. Perhaps not so much if you dislike acupuncture needles!
