Samantha Morton portrays the central character, a listless supermarket employee whose boyfriend dies by suicide. Following this event, she conceals his body and takes his money, along with a manuscript he finished. She then embarks on a journey with her closest friend, initially exploring Scotland under gloomy weather conditions before traveling to Spain in search of enjoyment. The fundamental problem I have with this somber and inward-looking film is that I found neither the protagonist nor her companion remotely compelling. While Morton delivers a commendable performance, and the depiction of her existence—marked by drugs, casual encounters, and an absence of satisfaction—might represent a deeply personal project for director Lynne Ramsey and co-writer Liana Dognini, it doesn't succeed as entertaining cinema. I’m sure there are viewers who will see this as a reflection of their own struggles with interpersonal connection – an inability to establish significant bonds – but the presentation is so lackluster and unremarkable that even striking visuals of the Balearic Islands can't elevate it from its bleakness.
