I think I saw this Australian film quite some time ago, partly because I've always enjoyed Sam Neill’s work, but I honestly couldn’t recall anything about it until we decided to watch it again recently. It manages to be very enjoyable in a gentle fashion. The moments of humor are brief, infrequent, and understated, which is effective. The film draws from real events and incorporates some newsreel footage along with actors portraying people who lived through those times—at points, almost like quick appearances. There’s a degree of controlled suspense as the telescope staff work to fulfill their promise of relaying audio and video from the moon landing to NASA and everyone else. Other characters include a politically active young woman and an awkward couple attempting to start a relationship; these elements contribute to the overall story.
