Marlon Brando portrays Crain, who avoids active service during World War II by residing in India, when Col. His role involves neutralizing explosives rigged on board should anyone attempt to disrupt the voyage. The new captain of the vessel, Mueller, played by Yul Brynner, isn’t thrilled about having his crew augmented by a motley group reminiscent of Long John Silver's pirates. Now known as Kyle, Crain must locate and disarm the bombs without being detected; realizing this is beyond his capabilities alone, he needs assistance. The unfolding events highlight the strained dynamic between him and the increasingly wary captain, crew, and newly onboard passengers, all vital to his mission’s outcome. Bernhard Wicki directs a cast that conveys a growing sense of threat as mistrust spreads among everyone aboard, making control of the ship unstable. It doesn’t get much attention these days, and those unfamiliar with Latin might be deterred by the name—but it's definitely worth seeing.
