Moonraker is an enjoyable film throughout its runtime. It’s full of impressive visuals, beautiful settings, plenty of humor, fantastic action sequences, attractive women, a villain who sticks with you, excellent special effects, and naturally, the iconic Sir Roger Moore in the role of James Bond. Ideas from You Only Live Twice—like spacecraft being consumed by others—are built upon here, and Moonraker feels perfectly at home within the established sense of fun that characterizes the Bond series. It’s disappointing that the 2006 attempt to revive the franchise disregarded all of this and opted to move away from what makes Bond films, well, Bond films.
