Moonfall delivers exactly the kind of wild absurdity one might anticipate, yet its downfall lies in the absence of engaging moments throughout a large portion of the movie. The various concurrent action scenes don’t quite work because the characters are flat and uninteresting, and the editing feels disorganized and confusing. Disaster films inherently require viewers to overlook some logic, but Roland Emmerich pushes the boundaries of believability by co-writing what could be considered one of the most scientifically improbable scripts ever—the discoveries in the final act are truly astonishing. Across the board, this is a surprisingly unexciting disaster film, concerning everything from the plot to the action and even the acting. Rating: D-
