This movie is a bit of an oddity. 'Moonfall' manages to be good in some of the places I anticipated disappointment and disappointing where I’d hoped for something better. I saw one of the previews—while at the cinema for another film—and wasn't expecting much, particularly given its resemblance to 'Don’t Look Up', although I was hoping the humor and absurdity might save it. However, the jokes don't really land, and instead, the more serious aspects take center stage. I actually found myself enjoying the science fiction elements and the dramatic scenes. The comedy is pretty weak; I honestly can’t recall even smiling once. They probably should have just taken a completely straightforward approach, in my view. On the other hand, the special effects are good. The actors work reasonably well together when they aren't trying to be funny. Halle Berry, John Bradley—who seems to be leading the charge with the unfunny jokes, but he’s an actor I can still find agreeable—and Patrick Wilson—whose name I always forget; I was actively trying to remember it during the film and still couldn’t—form a decent team when things get serious. The rest of the cast, including Michael Peña, are just okay. Ultimately, I'm giving it a 6/10. I like disaster movies—'2012', which is Roland Emmerich’s best film, is fantastic—but this one didn't quite measure up; especially as it wrapped up. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's as bad as the average rating implies, but everyone has their own opinion, of course.
