Gurukul university has a reputation for academic excellence. Its dean, Narayan Shankar (played by Amitabh Bachchan), enforces very strict guidelines: students must focus entirely on their studies and avoid any distractions, particularly romantic relationships. When new students Karan (Jimmy Shergill), Sameer (Jugal Hansraj), and Vikram "Vicky" (Uday Chopra) arrive, they’re full of aspirations for a successful future. While running errands outside the university, they encounter Kiran (Preeti Jhangiani), Sanjana (Kim Sharma), and Ishika (Shamita Shetty), and feelings begin to develop. However, Kiran shares with them the tale of the "sad poet," who was once a student at Gurukul. He had a relationship with a girl, but she happened to be Narayan's daughter. Upon discovering this, Narayan expelled him without even meeting him; being dismissed from Gurukul means you can never attend another university. Therefore, they feel compelled to concentrate on their coursework. Then, a new professor arrives: Raj Aryan Malhotra (Shah Rukh Khan), who wants to teach music. Initially, Narayan is reluctant, but he allows Raj to try teaching if he can gather enough students. However, Raj’s intentions extend beyond simply reintroducing romance into the students' lives; he has unresolved issues with Gurukul. This film blends romantic and dramatic elements, characteristic of Bollywood productions, and incorporates numerous humorous scenes. The narrative follows both the budding romances of the new students and Raj’s story (alongside Kake – Anupam Kher in a particularly amusing role). It’s remarkable how the filmmakers managed to weave together four love stories and an opposing character into one movie. The performances are outstanding, especially from Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, with strong showings also from the newer cast members. The musical numbers and songs are exceptionally well done as well. It definitely comes highly recommended.
