This animated short, reminiscent of the 1982 “Snowman,” offers a vibrant portrayal of how the Thomas family gets ready for Christmas, all while their cat observes with apparent indifference. As relatives gather, Mog finds himself overlooked and escapes outdoors. The chaotic tipping point arrives when the Christmas tree topples over. Seeking an escape from the commotion, he retreats to the roof where snowflakes land on his nose. “Oh, for my basket and a boiled egg!” he seems to lament – but how will he get back down? While I’m not particularly fond of cats myself, I still found it striking as a gentle nudge that we can become so absorbed in the customs surrounding December 25th that we might overlook ensuring everyone feels part of the whirlwind of presents and family. The animation is well-executed with some amusing scenes, and even includes a song performed by Sophie Ellis Bextor.
