Rating: C MOANA could have built upon the foundation of the earlier animated film, but it largely squanders that opportunity. The remake closely mirrors the 2016 version, exchanging the original’s bright and colorful visuals for a noticeably artificial look created with green screens; what were once lively musical sequences now feel rigid and like an uninspired display. While the actress playing the main character manages to convey genuine feeling in the role, and there are instances of connection between the characters, these positives don't succeed in hiding the fact that it’s hard to understand why this film was made at all.
