I was excited when this movie arrived, imagining we’d get a new action franchise like James Bond, but with an American lead. It seemed promising. Sadly, my hopes were met, but not in the way I wanted. This is honestly the only film in the series that's worth seeing; *Mission: Impossible II* really damaged what could have been a good run and should have ended there. However, what you get here resembles something like De Palma’s *3 Days of the Condor*, packed with action sequences. I'm serious—it feels very much like *3 Days of the Condor*, though it has less plot and suspense and more shooting and action. Tom Cruise takes over for Robert Redford, which is a fairly equal exchange between generations of actors...though Redford remains the stronger performer, and Cruise only seems to give his all when he feels like it. If you're familiar with *3 Days of the Condor*, then you already know what to expect. Just make it an international story, crank up the pace, include a soundtrack featuring members of U2, and that’s essentially *Mission: Impossible*. Even so, I found it quite fun and enjoyable.
