Dougray Scott portrays "Ambrose," an ex-IMF operative seeking revenge. His goal is to obtain and unleash a dangerous virus called “chimera” in Sydney, intending to manipulate stock prices through the auction of both the virus and its antidote, "Bellerophon." It’s up to "Ethan" (Tom Cruise) and his team to stop him. To assist, he brings in the bold thief "Nyah" (Thandiwe Newton), who is positioned as a romantic interest for "Ethan" while pretending to be involved with "Ambrose" so she can uncover his intentions. This seems like a perfect setup for this series – reminiscent of “James Bond,” complete with exotic locations, action sequences, and unique devices. However, Scott’s portrayal lacks the necessary menace, and the narrative feels rushed. The performers seem almost amused as they deliver lackluster lines, while John Woo directs the action in a manner that resembles an animated movie. While the production quality is good, and the action is well-staged and filmed, the plot never truly develops, making for a disappointing experience lasting over two hours. It doesn't measure up to the original film at all.
