I've never really connected with the Mission Impossible films. While they offer action and impressive stunts, I don’t think they capture what made the original TV series special. The show had a straightforward structure: the team received their assignment and then finished it, outsmarting the villains with support from the IMF. There was no political maneuvering or internal conflict. But in almost every movie, Ethan Hunt or the entire IMF team has been double-crossed or deceived, forcing them not only to accomplish their mission but also to resolve whatever convoluted plot the writers created. The films have become a misnomer of the title they carry. I often question whether the people who wrote the scripts even bothered watching the show. This movie includes its share of political complications and betrayal—things I could certainly do without. However, for once, the IMF and Ethan’s team remain supportive throughout the entire film. There are also a few moments where they use clever tactics to outwit their adversaries, reminiscent of classic Mission Impossible scenarios. Otherwise, it's largely a typical Hollywood action-adventure/thriller. The pace is consistently fast with nearly constant action sequences. As expected, there are some plot inconsistencies and physics-defying stunts. The CIA director felt like an entirely superfluous addition to the story. Despite all that, I have to say this entry in the series is among the stronger ones, possibly even the best so far.
