It’s unusual to see a film prioritize friendship over familial bonds, but this one does just that. It isn’t another cancer drama; instead, the narrative centers on two primary characters and their individual hardships. These friends have known each other since they were children. As adults, one finds stability and then faces a serious illness, while the other battles to establish a family. I believe what made this film work was the careful progression of events in each scene—nothing felt unnecessary. There’s always something unfolding that holds your attention. I anticipated a familiar experience, but it offered an unexpected form of entertainment. The focus remained entirely on these two friends, even as they dealt with their respective families; the story concentrated on their connection and how they navigated challenges together. The direction was commendable, showcasing beautiful locations, though the acting felt merely adequate. A stronger performance would have been welcome, particularly from Toni Collette. The emotional impact seemed somewhat muted considering the subject matter typically associated with sentimental dramas. At first glance, it resembled a female counterpart to '50/50,' and in some ways it was, but it attempted to differentiate itself through added narrative elements. It's generally an enjoyable film, providing a bit of amusement, though I can’t promise you’ll love it. 7/10
