A woman and her daughter, both trying to leave their past behind, relocate to a quiet community, but things don't go smoothly. The teenage daughter experiences bullying at school and finds comfort in an antique mirror. From there, problems quickly escalate. "Mirror Mirror" (1990) is horror influenced by the work of Stephen King, set against a high school backdrop. The storyline echoes "Christine" (1983), where someone who's being picked on gets power from an unconventional source and uses it to get back at their tormentors. “The Rage: Carrie 2” (1999) and "The Unhealer" (2021) are more recent films with similar themes. Although "Christine" and, particularly, "The Rage: Carrie 2" are better movies, this one isn’t that far behind and has a few things worth noting, such as Charlie Spradling's portrayal of the snobby Charleen and Kristin Dattilo playing Megan’s only friend at her new school. Yvonne De Carlo appears as the auctioneer overseeing the house clearance sale. She was 66 years old during filming, long after her peak beauty, but it deserves recognition that she continued working in acting regardless. William Sanderson is also featured as the mother's romantic interest. There was an acceptable sequel released in 1994 called “Mirror Mirror 2: Raven Dance,” but it’s a clear step down from the original. Two additional sequels followed in 1995 and 2000. The movie runs for a bit too long, at 1 hour and 44 minutes. It was filmed in residential areas of Los Angeles—not in the more recognizable urban settings like downtown—so it looks like an average small town. GRADE: B
