Disney has once again delivered what they do well with this kind of story. This is an uplifting sports film centered on the real-life account of Coach Herb Brooks (played by Kurt Russell), who was in charge of guiding the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team during the Winter Olympics held at Lake Placid. The dominant Russian team was also there. The movie portrays Brooks as he gathers a group of young players and then drives them hard, both mentally and physically, while dealing with challenges in his personal life as he dedicates himself to the ice rinks. If you're familiar with sports history, the plot won’t be unexpected, but it provides some interesting observations about team relationships, coaching methods, and the demanding nature of elite-level competition. Russell does a commendable job leading the younger actors, and the game sequences possess an exciting sense of movement that is quite striking. It earns a 7/10.
