Tom Cruise portrays a police officer working within a "pre-crime" division; he utilizes insights from three individuals with precognitive abilities to proactively address rising crime by apprehending those about to commit offenses. This approach effectively lowers rates of crimes like murder, rape, and robbery. However, the narrative takes a turn when Cruise’s character, Anderton, finds himself suspected in a potential killing, and his former associates—including Colin Farrell as Witwer and Max von Sydow as Director Burgess—begin pursuing him using the very methods he employs. Steven Spielberg has assembled a plot that is intricate but accessible, incorporating action and thriller components to achieve their intended effect. While the resolution felt somewhat underwhelming; it was too neatly resolved for my taste, the performances of Cruise, Farrell, and von Sydow create a palpable sense of threat and suspense throughout. The visual effects haven't aged particularly well, and I wonder if Bulgari benefited from their product placement—it’s not something I would prioritize purchasing, but I would certainly rewatch the movie.
