A film studio is disrupted by these yellow creatures, creating mayhem during a movie shoot, and the director worries his superiors will fire him. Surprisingly, they love the pandemonium and ask him to make more movies starring these "Minions," leading to rapid wealth and popularity. However, sound arrives, threatening the silent era, and suddenly no one wants to hear constant squeaking from the little characters—so they quickly return to obscurity. “James” and his friend “Henry” believe their filmmaking isn't finished when their former director gives them an old Brownie camera, but they need a villain. A monster seems like the perfect choice, and discovering an ancient spellbook awakens "Goomi," seemingly solving their problem—unaware that this creature is manipulating events to consume everything in its path, whether it’s living beings, rocks, or concrete. Now, these “Minions” urgently must undo the spell before they, along with all of their kind, vanish completely. Beyond being a fun tribute to classic Hollywood, the story feels quite formulaic and ultimately forgettable. I preferred the "Minions" when they were supporting characters for the villainous "Gru," but this time it’s missing something essential, and the usual amusing nonsense—where we try to decipher actual words from their babble—began to irritate me, stretching what felt like a thirty-minute TV show into a stretched-out movie. For some unexplained reason, the story is narrated by a museum curator, so there's no real sense of danger either, and I left feeling quite let down. It’s certainly an acceptable film to watch, and the children in the theater seemed to enjoy it, but adults will find less to appreciate, and it appears too comfortable relying on past successes.
