It’s a surprisingly fun science fiction movie centered around a creature gone wrong. "Tyler," portrayed by Mira Sorvino, is a respected researcher who engineered an insect intended to eliminate cockroaches spreading a dangerous illness. However, these enhanced insects have begun to spiral out of control, and they quickly begin targeting those responsible for their creation – despite safeguards designed to prevent such a thing! With people dying rapidly, she and "Peter," played by Jeremy Northam, must find a way to stop the escalating crisis before humanity is consumed in a disturbingly violent fashion. The performances and script are fairly standard, but the special effects bear similarities to “The Fly” (1986), both visually and narratively, and there's less frantic chaos compared to many other films within this type of story. I would even suggest that it incorporates some actual scientific elements. It seems to be conveying a sense that regardless of how carefully we attempt to prepare for any possibility, when the survival of an entire species is on the line, nature will always discover ways to circumvent even the most secure safety measures. The resolution feels like it’s setting up a follow-up, but I can't imagine there's much more story to explore beyond what’s presented here, which is already satisfactory. It’s perfectly acceptable for viewing at home, although it’s unlikely to stick with you for very long afterward.
