I had such high hopes for this film given all the praise it’s received, but ultimately, it didn't quite live up to my expectations; I was somewhat let down. While I’ve generally appreciated Laxman Utekar’s previous work behind the camera, in Mimi, both the writing and direction feel a bit lacking when held up to current filmmaking standards. That isn’t to say that it's not pleasant viewing—it's certainly easy enough to sit through and find some enjoyment in. The initial idea and central struggle are believable, even if I am aware this particular procedure involving international travel is now against the law. My disappointment probably stems from simply anticipating more given Utekar’s past accomplishments.
