"Mack" and his wife "Pam" were happily settled by their pond, getting ready for winter, when some ducks passing through gave their children, "Gwen" and "Dax," the urge to travel. "Mack" felt that staying put was the sensible thing to do, but with the arrival of "Uncle Dan" and pressure from his daughter, he started thinking a trip to Jamaica might not be so bad after all. Their journey then took them through some risky urban environments. It's there they came across "Chump," a tiny pigeon who seemed to have a real attitude, and after a disagreement about food, he offered to connect them with the only bird who could possibly know how to get to the Caribbean. The catch was that this bird, “Delroy” the macaw, was trapped in a restaurant and his keeper held the key right on his chef’s jacket. They had to figure out how to steal the key, release "Delroy," and then avoid the angry pursuit of the heavily tattooed man with long hair and kitchen knives. The animation quality is good, and I found the movie enjoyable enough, but it brought to mind a combination of "Ratatouille" (2007) and "Chicken Run" (2000). There's lots of vibrant action, and the story does manage to give some personality to the two kids, especially, though overall it felt somewhat formulaic. It’s one of the better movies coming out of Illumination, but I don't see this being a film that sticks with people for very long, and it definitely seemed like they were pushing for another installment.
