The special effects are still amazing; they bring back memories of when brilliant artists like Willis O'Brien and Ray Harryhausen put in tremendous effort to create believable illusions. Mighty Joe, the enormous gorilla at the center of the story, looks fantastic, displaying a wide range of expressions and feelings—he even manages to be funny at times. There’s always something exciting happening, with miniature sets and models being smashed apart, and people flying through the air to show how chaotic things have become. Like *Kong*, it deals with ideas about greed and lack of understanding, highlighting how messing with nature is a serious error, all building up to an exhilarating final sequence that leaves you feeling satisfied. So what if they call it “Kiddie Kong?” It's a film full of talent and cleverness, charm and intelligence. Go Joe! 8/10
