The film establishes a palpable sense of anticipation and features an exceptionally impressive initial sequence, but in my view, Midsommar doesn’t quite succeed with its presentation of scenes. It spends considerable time cultivating the feeling of unease surrounding the pagan group, yet it falls short when it comes to depicting the violence later on; after such a lengthy development, the ultimate resolution feels surprisingly understated. The acting is superb, however, and I found myself enjoying watching the Swedish cast express distress.
