Midnight Madness arrived courtesy of Disney, which is surprising given the content. We’re talking Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Winnie the Pooh – the whole crew. I realize Disney collaborates with other studios frequently, but this one officially carries the mouse’s stamp. It marks the first time I've encountered such blatant sexual humor in a Disney production, and it’s genuinely delightful! The storyline echoes films like Cannonball Run or It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, blending elements of Animal House and other college comedies from that period. The premise involves five groups of exaggerated, stereotypical young adults participating in a treasure hunt. They chase clues to various locations where more clues await them. A trophy is awarded to the winning team. Running alongside this is a subplot concerning Adam and his brother Scott attempting to connect with each other. Each team is distinguished by color: Green, Blue, Red, White, and Yellow. The Green team embodies the jock stereotype, driving a modified VW Bug nicknamed the Meat Wagon. Dirk Blocker shines as Blaylock in several amusing scenes set at a Pabst Blue Ribbon brewery; he’s easily the standout member of that group. The Blue team are portrayed as unpleasant individuals; Stephen Furst, familiar from Animal House, leads them with a short temper and apparent lack of enthusiasm. The Red team consists entirely of women, notable for some obese twins who giggle constantly. The White team represents the nerd archetype, guided by Eddie Deezen. The Yellow team is the central focus, featuring performers like David Naughton, Debra Clinger, David Damas, Michael J. Fox, and Joel Kenney as Flynch, who embodies a McLovin-like persona. This film marks Michael J. Fox’s screen debut, and it also includes an early appearance by Paul Rubens before his success with Pee-Wee Herman. Midnight Madness is enjoyable—a comedy incorporating mild adult humor that's primarily entertaining. It isn't without its flaws, but these are easily dismissed considering it's a Disney movie filled with jokes about bare chests! That alone makes it hard to resist.
