"Mickey 17," for those who recall earlier times, evokes a feeling similar to Jerry Lewis in outer space. Mickey is a disheartened, awkward character who ends up being something like a replaceable "crash test dummy" sent into space—a way to escape what could be an even worse situation back on Earth, facing ruthless creditors. Frankly, this film left me frustrated from start to finish. It doesn't achieve what it should: genuine wit and charm. Instead, I experienced something dark, frequently harsh, filled with unappealing people who are selfish and irritating in roughly the same degree. If this is meant as a commentary on humanity or satire, it’s not particularly optimistic, that’s for sure. The performances aren't impressive either. The central characters don't make much of an impact and there isn’t anything to compensate for their obvious shortcomings. At least Jerry Lewis, whom I never cared for, had the lively and captivating Dean Martin alongside him. Ultimately, this is not just unremarkable; it’s depressing, dull, and quite boring. It might have been better with a lighter tone and humor reminiscent of Monty Python, but that quality is noticeably missing. A barely acceptable viewing experience.
