METHODIC holds the unusual title of being the initial "basher" film. While there are echoes of HALLOWEEN present, director Chris R. Notarile openly acknowledges his admiration for that movie and has stated that METHODIC was initially conceived as a reboot or remake of John Carpenter’s classic. Putting that aside, METHODIC begins with a setup reminiscent of many horror films—a young boy murdering his parents—but it swiftly evolves into something unique. The narrative reveals that the entity called "The Dollman" functions more like a contagion than a supernatural being, meaning anyone could potentially become The Dollman. This concept is further developed in the brief sequel METHODIC 1.5, which hints at the direction of the larger storyline and confirms it has no connection to HALLOWEEN! The performances are strong across the board; Brandon Slagle, Niki Rubin, Tony Dadika, and Stephen Muzzonigro deliver excellent portrayals, as does the rest of the cast, with Daniel Werzinger, Christine Allanach, and Roberto Lombardi particularly noteworthy—Lombardi’s storyline is especially significant in METHODIC 1.5. And seeing Charles Cyphers appear in the film is a real treat! The visuals are deliberately unsettling and impactful, complemented by music that strengthens the overall atmosphere. If you enjoy classic horror with a compelling plot, this is worth watching. However, if your preference is for films focused solely on gore and reckless behavior, it’s probably not for you.
