As his life nears its end, an old monk shares a tale with his student about events from his past. It was the coldest part of winter, with snow and ice covering everything, when he noticed a young girl adrift in the river. He pulled her to safety and went looking for clothes to warm her up. When he got back, she had disappeared. Quite some time later, while fishing, she reappears and they develop feelings for each other – but his older teacher was observing them, leading to... The story concludes with Jacob's ladder, leaving the question of what ultimately became of this couple unanswered. A tense storm sequence brings things to a head, and there’s a strong religious theme throughout, with some of the animations of the elder characters resembling the work of Michelangelo. The dark and textured visuals, combined with impactful sound design, create an engaging ten-minute drama from Aleksandr Petrov.
