Alex Garland's Men proves to be a disturbing study of sorrow, psychological wounds, and the strange ways men behave, all presented within a story that feels both eerie and tense. Rory Kinnear gives an astonishing performance, taking on several roles with a creepy skill that’s truly something to see. The way he changes from one character to the next, each more disturbing than the previous one, builds up a sense of unease throughout the movie. His acting is frightening and fascinating at the same time, making a strong mark that enhances the film's unsettling ideas and encourages you to think about them deeply. Jessie Buckley also shines as Harper, a woman trying to deal with what’s happened to her while facing increasingly awful events. She brings a lot of feeling to her role, which helps make the movie feel real and intense, so you really connect with her experiences. Buckley's skill in showing many different emotions, from sadness to strength, makes her a great match for Kinnear’s unsettling characters. Men is one of the first films in quite some time that managed to both affect me emotionally and scare me at the same time. Garland does a great job mixing psychological suspense with moments of pure fright, resulting in an uncomfortable feeling that's as interesting as it is absorbing.
