It occurred to me recently that 25 years have passed since this film first came out, and I can still vividly recall the impression made by those little aliens pushing a trolley full of cigarettes as they attempted to escape Earth after we were warned about annihilation by the "Arquillian" empire – beings possessing formidable weaponry who are demanding their “galaxy” be returned. The story centers on "K" (Tommy Lee Jones) and his younger, more familiar-with-the-streets partner, "J" (Will Smith), as they work to locate a specific item and the creature responsible for killing the Imperium’s Emperor—who was in possession of it—before the empire carries out its devastating plan. The chemistry between the two leads is excellent, with humor balancing out the enjoyable special effects, and we learn that there are countless alien characters living on this planet, seemingly since ancient times. While the conclusion feels a little extended, it has aged gracefully and remains, without question, the strongest installment in the series.
